Officials in Sacramento County are investigating a shooting that occurred Saturday evening at Howe Community Park as law enforcement were dissolving a large unsanctioned party of hundreds of attendees.

How It Started

Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies initially responded to Howe Community Park at approximately 6:30 PM after being notified of individuals possibly carrying concealed weapons. Soon after, a follow-up call was made regarding a possible fight unfolding at the location.

A sheriff's airship flew over the park but came back with no confirmation of a fight. Even so, it became clear that a massive group had packed into the park without official sanction.

When the Shots Rang Out

Officers worked to disperse the crowd by positioning themselves around the crowd and using their vehicle PA systems ordering the crowd to go home. Around 15 minutes were allowed for people to comply.

At the height of the dispersal effort that 20 to 25 rounds of ammunition were fired. The barrage of gunfire sparked chaos as hundreds ran. Officers at once began locating gunshot victims.

The Shooting Victims

When the dust settled, four people were located with gunshot injuries. All four — comprising three men and one woman all reportedly in their 20s at the time of the incident — were airlifted or driven to area medical facilities. Doctors and nurses confirmed that two were treated for serious injuries, one had moderate injuries, and one suffered minor injuries. Fortunately, all four victims survived and were stable.

Sacramento Metro Fire were called to the scene and aided in treating the injured at the park.

Physical Evidence

The center of the incident was determined to have taken place on the Cottage Way side of the park adjacent to the Home Depot store on the 2200 block of Howe Ave. Investigators found additional shell casings on the Cottage Way roadway. Round impacts were identified in the iron fence adjacent to the Home Depot. These discoveries pointed to that a second shooter had been discharging rounds toward the south from Cottage Way targeting the Home Depot. The Home Depot was secured under a brief lockdown as a precaution. Forensic investigators and law enforcement detectives remained on scene late into the evening.

Suspect Vehicle Located

Information relayed via scanner audio revealed that a vehicle identified as a Kia had been stopped in Solano County California. Four suspects Sacramento park shooting 2026 were detained. Law enforcement units were heading to pick up the four detainees to bring the suspects back for questioning. Video reviewed at the scene confirmed that the shooting involved two separate gunmen.
